Re: New here - Is this the Right Forum for Me?

another week on this forum and Pete will be asking about refractory suppliers in Jersey and which is better vermiculite or perlite.
He is starting out the same as me......looking for the way to make the best pizza at home. I tried several stones, several flours, in the oven and on my grill......couldn't find what I was looking for....built the oven, and with much advice from the forum (and several hundred dollars of FB products) I now have what I searched for - GREAT PIZZA
Your in the right place Pete, with a little coaching and training you will become a WFO fanatic like the rest of us.
Seriously.....I hop you find what your searching for and we can all be a part of it. Good Luck

    RT

    Hi,
As an uneducated in New Jersy pizza person, could you please try to describe what a New Jersey pizza is like as compared to one you get in Italy, or one of those ghastly things we can buy at the likes of Round Table, Pizza Hut, Dominoes (sp), etc.? Thanks.
Earl (likes them thin and crispy on the bottom)

This is the way it starts. Before you know it, you find yourself mixing vermiculite and portland cement in a kiddie pool!

    Welcome!

    Hey all,

I am hopeful that we keep building up the pizza technique sections of the FB Forum. I think we have a great bunch of people, with a lot of skill and expertise -- and I really like the way our group feels.

There definitely are other groups out there, but I like the way we approach questions and build up knowledge. Don't forget to use the e-Books as well.

If so, please point me to the correct forum here.

    Thanks!

You'll find lots of helpful folks here for your questions, but if your focus in on New Jersey style pizza you might also look at pizzamaking.com for their forum. My feeling is they are not as relaxed as the users here, but you can find lot's of ideas about making a home oven work better for pizza and some recipes that are more focused on NY style pizza - much of what you see here is aimed at VPN pizza napoletana. Use both forums!

    Hi Dave and welcome.
I am a relatively new member but was inspired to build my Pompeii oven from the information and assistance from this wonderful forum.
As you will see, I was a little lost when first posting my attempt at the build from the foundations to the almost finished oven at the following links:
    http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f8/n...-1-a-2005.html
    then go to:
    http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f21/...10-a-2119.html
then to top it off, check out:
    http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f10/...zzas-2117.html
and the last (tonight in fact):
    http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f25/...-veg-2158.html
Hope this will get you going. It all took around 3 weeks to get this far and cooking!

    Good luck

    Neill

    Hi Pete and welcome,
you can't do much better than here to ask all the questions that you have and also help the novice(s), such as myself to help the with their experiences in pizza preparation and cooking. With 10 years experience, I would like to try some of your 'developed receipes' to the wood fired oven.

    Welcome aboard Pete,

We have a section of the FB Forum set up for pizza stone pizza -- so this a great place to be. Look around all of the forums on pizza, ingredients, etc. as well as the pizza stone section for techniques.

Also, your timing is perfect. We are starting work on a Pizza Stone Pizza e-Book in the summer, so you can be part of the process of putting that together. We are going to talking about the various ways people use pizza stones and try to get high, moist heat -- along with pizza dough prep, pizza making, recipes, etc. It should be fun.

New here - Is this the Right Forum for Me?

    Hi eveyone,
I was googling cooking forums that deal with pizza and found this one.
I'm a little confused about what's allowed or not allowed here.

My main interest is making pizza at home using a conventional gas
oven with a baking stone. I'm looking to refine my pizza recipies.
It's taken me about 10 years to develop my own recipies and
techniques for making pizza at home.

More specifically I'm looking to improve my pizza recipes to
get my pizza to taste more like the typical pizza you buy at
your local pizzaria in New Jersey.

Am I at the right place?
If so, please point me to the correct forum here.

    Thanks!
