  • My new oven

I have just started burning in my new oven from DECO ovens. Is it correct that the oven will be ready when the inside colour is white. At the moment it is black and one half is white (where I last burnt)

The simple answer is yes, it's done when the whole of the oven burns away the black soot. But, this is often where folk get excited and allow the fire to run away and then cracks develop. The bottom of your oven is still wet while the top is dry. This means that there will be a massive difference in temperature and therefore difference in expansion, stress, cracking resulting possibly. It's the very time that you need to go easy with the fire because as the oven is partially dry the fire will want to pick up its ferocity.
