  • Adelaide - Where Else

    Hi Guys,

I've been lurking for a while and finally found the courage to post. There is a lot of information out there but nowhere is it more concise and varied ... well done and thankyou to all that have come before.

I, like I?m sure many before, have been looking for the ultimate formula to build one of these ovens. What I have come to realise is there isn't a right way or a wrong way if you follow the general principles - good foundation, thermal mass and insulate.

I have decided on a 42" igloo style oven. The current decision seems to be based around how much to spend i.e. firebricks vs clay pavers vs second hand red bricks etc.

With all that said, the journey is as much fun as the destination so here we go ...

I will keep you informed on my progress.

    Regards ... Paul.

    Hey Paul,

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to seeing your progress. A WFO in the back yard is a good thing in all ways.

Do keep us posted on your oven. - and pictures are good!

Hi Paul, Yes you are right, follow the general principles and study this web site and you will get there. After having my dome (consisting only of fire bricks and fire clay) covered by a tarp all winter to keep it dry, I am now into the final stages of completion - it is very exciting, I am just waiting for the sun to come up this morning so I can get stuck into it again. Enjoy, it is great fun.
