I have a question about the perilite concrete. From all of the photos and videos I've seen the perilite concrete seems to have a very rough surface when finished. Is this an issue when laying the oven floor as far as leveling the brick on the fire clay and if so could I use a thin coat of refractory mortar over the insulating layer? Also, is the compression strength of the perilte mixture sufficient to support the weight of the entire oven or should I build the oven dome on structural concrete and put the pericrete under the floor only. The oven will not set on the oven floor. I will be building the dome on the stand and lay the floor within the perimeter of the dome with a 1/4' gap for expansion.
