  • Help: permits for using oven on a sidewalk

    Hi All,

My fiance and I are hiring a pizza restaurant to bring their portable wood burning oven to make pizza for our wedding. They've told me that they need permits from the city/fire department but they don't know what those permits are. We are in New York City (Brooklyn, to be precise). Does anyone know what I need to get?

    Thanks, Maeve

    Hi Mae241,

Contact the fire department to ask but, please don't use their emergency number.

Look in the city directory for an engineering, safety or permits department. Ask them.

    Cheers,
    Bob

That might well be true. There might be health department requirements for food vendors, as well. New York City, like most large cities, is fussy about this.
they don't know what those permits are.
I'm thinking this is like hiring a plumber who doesn't know how to pull a building permit.
You might want to stroll down to your local fire station. Those are the people who will be enforcing this. If they don't know, call 311.

I keep coming back to the thought that it's up to to vendor to get the appropriate permits.
