Using Vermiculite board as the cooking surface

Hello

Just getting to the part of when i need to decide on how I want my pizza oven surface to look. Is there any reasons why I cannot use Vermiculite board? I have all ready laid a layer of fire brick and was wondering to give a smooth flat surface to put a layer of Vermiculite board down before i start building the arch.

Vermiculite is an insulative material and not suitable for an oven floor, both from a refractory and safety standpoint. You would be wise to read through the Forno Bravo plans to understand how an oven works and the properties involved in each of the construction materials involved.

Gianni, you responded incredibly well - just when you thought you saw it all

Jonathan, Without seeing your progress you need the board under the brick - that one piece of the puzzle is INCREDIBLY important. If at any point you are unsure, do what you did, post the question. It will save you time and money. As mentioned, read the plans and we are all happy to help. Thats what made this forum so great.

I consider that quite a compliment coming from a Pizzaiolo such as yourself! It's the guys and gals here who think outside the box who are responsible for pushing the envelope and up to the old guys to keep them all above board! Ha!
