  • Does pizza sauce in metal can concern you?

According to this Yahoo article, you should never eat tomato sauce in metal can due to cancer-causing BPA.

The 9 Foods Never to Eat | Yahoo! Health

This includes the very own tomato sauce sold in the FB shop:

San Marzano Tomatoes :: Forno Bravo Store

In fact, I can't seem to find any pizza sauce not sold in a metal can in many of the local supermarket. Plenty of pasta sauce in glass jars, but not pizza sauce. Do you make your own?

If its on the internet it must be true, right?

All the cans of tomatoes we buy have a plastic coating on the inside.
In fact I cant think of the last time I opened a can of something without the lining?

I think your post should be titled "does BPA in Tomato cans concern you". The article and the product link you give are both refer to canned tomatoes, not tomato sauce (or pizza sauce). And there are cans (or cardboard containers) of tomatoes that are free from if you look for them.

I think that article is about 4 years old. At least the material is.

Primarily, you should not be buying pizza sauce. Buy good tomatoes and use them for WFO pizza plain with maybe a little salt or sugar to balance.

Ah don't worry, its not like it banned in Europe or anything

Seriously, i have the same concerns, my 4 year old is eating this. Trader Joes has regular canned tomatoes without PBH, will give them a try next time.

So are FB store's San Marzano tomatoes "canned tomatoes"? If so, does it say anywhere on the can that it is BPA-free? I don't have one at the moment to look it up.

Not that I am the least concerned, but the best way to avoid the situation is what I do:

GROW YOUR OWN TOMATOE AND THEM TURN THEM INTO YOUR OWN PREFERED SAUCE(S).
