  • Gas fired Ovens

    Hi All
I'm very new at this so if I do something wrong please forgive me.

I'm thinking of building a Pizza oven in my very small back yard. We have lots of privacy, but fairly close to other houses. The smoke maybe a issue, so I was hoping to heat up the oven using natural gas then use charcoal for the flavour. Do you thing this is possible?

    Re: Gas fired Ovens

Although I understand your concern, I've only read of one or two members here having issues with their neighbors and the smoke.

One work around that seems to work for many is to start a 'top down fire'. This style of fire making stacks wood in the oven and the fire is lit at the top of the stack. The ensuing fire begins slowly and with a minimum of smoke. HTH

There are legal implications when the management of fornobrovo allows discussions of gas ovens......So, we don't talk about gas ovens here.

Lee, Not to be anal but this is mis-leading. The first time I heard the phrase it was from James. He made a video sometime back demonstrating the top down fire.

When you fire an oven the only smoke is at start up but that can be over come if you aim an electric heat gun or hair drier at the base of the fire, this gives the fire a boost and supplies more air to it, the smoke is then non existent.

You can buy gas pizza ovens - but they won't get near as hot as a wood fired oven.

I think for safety reasons, gas fittings in a WFO are not recommended.

I live in a pretty dense neighborhood (4000 sqft lots) with close-by neighbors, and I don't have complaints about the smoke. Every time I light my oven, my next door neighbor tells me how good it smells! and within 20 minutes, the smoke is done and the oven is burning clean.

I don't use one of these, but they are used extensively by many to start charcoal for BBQ. It may be a little simpler and safer than trying to add all the piping and safety features to a WFO as a DYU project.

Also, the smoke actually smells great if you use dry seasoned hardwood for kindling. If you add a little of the other nut or fruit woods, it smells delicious .
