  • Old Kiln tile/brick

The Tile plant in town closed down this year & a local surplus / hardware store bought all the tiles from the kilns. I'm wondering if they'd be a good firebrick to make a barrel style oven. They're approximately 20x20. I'll try to get some pics of them in the next couple of days.

    Thanks!!!

You will need to check what nasties were fired in the oven in the glazes, heavy metals etc.

Based on what I can find they used Water based glazes since the mid 1990's...... I'd think the blocks have been replaced in a commercial application since then. I think I might get one of those instant lead tests & try swabbing the blocks first....... (I know lead isn;t the only concern.

I pic of them can be seen on the bottom of page 5: (Listed as refractory trays)
