Well..........it started when cobblerdave accidently left the "c" out of "pics", thus inadvertently making the statement that the job sounds better if accompanied by lots of alcohol (pis).
Ya see, us Aussies, masters of the Queen's English that we are, have a nickname for beer, the nickname being "piss". i.e. when one of us has a "big night on the piss" we don't mean that we spent the night indulging in bizarre sexually deviant behaviour. Rather, we mean we drank a lot of beer. Of course, this is not to say that, having consumed lots of beer, some of us might not have indulged in a few deviant activities while somewhat taken with drink.

Then of course, the nuances and connotations of mishearing the intention to make a film about the oven, a Forno flic, is sorta self explanatory, especially of it involved a big night on the piss.

Hope that clears it up for ya.

Sorry Gulf , every race that uses English bastardises it in some way.
Americans say they are "pissed" with someone, Aussies say they are "pissed off". Aussies use the term "piss" for alcohol, the term " pissed" is being drunk!
To further complicate matters The term "to take piss"out of someone, means to tease them ( good heartitly). To get absolutely " demolished " is to be well and truly drunk.
The rest is just just rhyming slang I suppose forno becomes porno etc
It seems that now computers and Mobile devices are having ther effect on the English language apart from" text English" it seems predictive text is the modern "spoonerism"
So you could say Dave took the "piss out"of me cause I mentioned "drinking piss" at a demolition. The porn bit? ..... Ill just leave that there

The term also lends itself to insults like - "couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery" etc.

Quite a versatile word. Like Dave said, across the English speaking world we are all guilty to one extent or another.

It is interesting that when an American is "pissed", he's pretty angry. When an Australian is "pissed" he's usually pretty happy. Although too much piss can sometimes lead an Australian to believe he's a superman, although the usual outcome is that he simply falls over, swinging punches on the way down.

Maybe you could persuade the Baroness to assist in the making of your "Forno"

Mate I would love too but I am currently laid up after surgery from an angle grinder accident. A couple more weeks before I can return to light duties.

Hoping to begin demolition in a month or 2, after I finish the ski boat building project that was the cause of the angle grinder incident.


The Baroness is keen to enjoy the proceeds from making our Forno but not so excited about the hard work that goes into making a Forno.

She's heard it can be hard on the hands and knees and can be difficult to explain Forno related injuries to the emergency department.

The Baroness has also shown limited interest in the scripting, mostly replying with "Stop talking about it and get on with the job, let me know when you're done so I can see some proceeds"

Seriously though, we have agreed on an igloo design as part of an outdoor corner kitchen area.

Predictive text and spell check problems, try this

Spell checkers are nice, but don't count on them to find all your mistakes! (Run this through a spell checker, and it will not report any mispelled words...)

I have a spelling checker -
It came with my PC.

Thread revival:
After almost a yeah of setbacks and scheduling issues we are on track to begin demolition the weekend of December 6-7.

The oven is located in side a shed in Canberra, in a backyard with no vehicle access, just a walkway thats wide enough for wheel barrows. The plan is to disassemble and load it into a pair of trailers then bring it back home to the Shoalhaven, 4 hours travel normally, trailer load of bricks could make for a different story.

I have managed to rope in my Father and Brother on the promise there will be plenty of beer and future pizza.

The oven is approx 140cm internal diameter, and was apparently the 4th oven built by an Italian gent so that his wife could supply bread to the local bakeries. Each time they moved the first order of business was to build a new oven.

I am hoping that being his 4th oven the bricks will be almost dry fit then rendered. I will have a couple of kanga hammers (mini jack hammers) with me just in case.

It presently has a substantial brick chimney as well as a stainless flue that was purchased to replace the brick chimney but they never got that far, deciding that reclaiming the space in the shed would be better.

My goal is to to reclaim enough usable material for a 100-ish cm igloo style oven.

Will keep you posted with info and pics as they occur.

If you remove the chimney/vent and set a jack inside , you could (at least) start the disassembly by pushing out the center of the dome without smashing any bricks. The stainless flue alone should be worth the trip. Good luck!
