  • My first oven

I would like to build my first oven. Live in Idaho and am concerned about the wind and cold weather. Help me out!

There are lots of builds on this site in winter country. Start with reviewing the Pompeli plans and go to the Newbie Section and look at this thread where you can start your research.

Also check out the Dragonfly by Sable Springs. If I lived above the Mason Dixon line, I would be looking into something like this .

Vmecke - I can't say that we have winters as cold as in Idaho, but having a structure around the oven sure extends the time available to enjoy pizza and bread baking. I actually think the best thing we did with the Dragonfly Den was to build screens into all the windows & doors...keeping flies and yellowjackets/hornets away from us (and the food) really can help make a party less stressful for many folks...hint, hint.

UtahBeehiver is right on with the link for "Newbie Treasures", take your time and go through the thread, other links, and info there...Great Stuff! Gulf, thanks for the kudos! You both have done fabulous jobs on your ovens and following your threads I have picked up lots of good ideas for helping a friend build his oven this summer.

I can assure you that wind won't be a problem! I have about 15,000 pounds of material in my foundation, base and oven. If we ever had a hurricane I would hide in the storage space under my oven!
