My oven is finished I have cured it. The construction is fire brick dome (4.5") thick, ceramic blanket then stucco enclosure, floor is 3" thick 12x24" fire brick slabs, cement and clay mixture then 3" calsil board. I heard after curing to heat at 100 degrees per hour - 7 hours is a long time to get to cooking. Is that true or can I fire it to 700 in a shorter period of time. HELP!!! Thanks

What do you mean by 'cured'? Did you follow the slow firing procedure over 10-14 days? If yes, and your oven is truly dry, then you can fire it right up!
I can get the interior top of my dome to 1000 degrees in 60 minutes. No cracking and no problems.
If you want to be more careful initially, then take a few hours to do it but don't need to go 100 degrees per hour.

100 degrees per hour (Celsius) is a rough rule that potters use to prevent damage to unfired clay as it proceeds through a number of chemical and mechanical changes during firing. It also applies to the refractory mortar (if any is used) when firing for the first time. Most manufacturers of castable refractory recommend between 25-50 C per hour depending on stage of temp range, for first time firing. If you want to be kind to your refractory the rise, even after it has been fully fired, should not be too fast or differing rates of expansion can cause damage. In practice nobody really does this though and we all fire to around 400 C per hour. The rapid rise particularly from start up is the greatest so it is prudent to start gently.Kindled with zeal and fired with passion.
