This was my first attempt and I'm kinda perplexed. The oven won't get over 450 degrees, yet 12+ hours after the fire subsides, it's still hovering around 400 degrees. I attributed the low threshold to my not insulating the floor properly, yet why would the oven remain so hot for so long?

    So anyway, questions:

Wood in the oven smolders for quite some time before igniting, so it obviously isn't being ventilated properly. What could I do to correct this?

How could I correct the floor insulation problem without a major demolition?

Any constructive suggestions are more than welcome.
