  • Cast iron skillet in WFO - Problem

I am told the cast iron skillet i used to make garlic prawns now is tainted and no way of getting rid of the smell/taste - problem is my wife is extremely allergic to shellfish this is why we had them when she was away!

Can anyone advise on how to clean the skillet to remove the smell and taste.

    Thank you in advance.
Where can I find logs? I need more!
Finishing the WFO will come after the barn is completed http://flinthousebarn.co.uk/

I like this guys technique for restoring CS dutch ovens which will work for a skillet too. He uses his house oven and grill but I see no reason why you could not use you WFO as well.

Put the pan into your WFO when it's lit and let it get super hot. That will burn off all the seasoning. You'll know because it will look brand new again. The next day, when your oven is about 450-500, coat the pan with some crisco - or better yet, bacon or beef fat - and put it in the oven for an hour or so. That will reseason it perfectly.
