I'm about ready for first fire just got floor done should I put sand between brick or I've heard flour works too I don't want hot coals to end up on my perlite/Portland base??
Also was in need of suggestions as to if I should leave oven Uninsulated for first few fires or insulate it then fire it
I don't want any moisture to get into ceramic fiber insulation
Love to hear some feedback thx

I don't understand the question. Are you talking about brick to brick on the hearth floor?

Yes my floor is Layed over some sand for leveling and under that is Portland/perlite mix
Didn't want to leave little gaps in brick floor in fear the direct fire would do damage underneath
Like I said I put sand down for leveling purposes

        Re: First fire

If the firebricks on the oven floor are laid against each other there should be very little gap at all. Ash will fill any cracks over time. I wouldn't be putting anything else in there.
        Cheers ......... Steve

I fired my dome and used it for a year before I got around to insulating it with blanket etc; didn't do any harm and ensured it was fully dried out, plus we got early pizza.

As to the floor gaps, don't worry as they'll fill up with ash.
