  • Waterproofing dome! Help

I am at the final stages of my wood oven. I applied the matrilite to the dome and am in the process of curing the oven with a succession of fires. Can I roller on a waterproof membrane over the whole dome before I put mortar and stone on it?

I am in the middle of the same process (matrilite covered currently) and wondering what product you are planning on using for the waterproofing?
probably won't do till spring now but ..
in various forums I've seen these (not sure where to get them here in southern Ontario per se yet)

saw this at lowes (not in any forum search here?)

    just looking for any recommendations

It is unwise to seal the dome until it is perfectly dry. If you do you will lock in moisture as well as preventing its entry. Keep using the oven and test it for moisture by throwing some sheet plastic over it while firing. If moisture is still present it will condense on the underside of the plastic. In the meantime, if it looks like rain cover the oven.
