My house has this weird external fireplace that we're never going to use. (Image 1) There are two fireplaces inside, which each have their own flues.
My thought is to build a pizza oven and tie into the existing fireplace. Those of you with more experience, can you review my plan and see what you think.
It'd go something like this (Image 2)
Cut back the deck to the flue access door in the middle of the chimney.
Put down a foundation and build a wood storage area up to level of the existing fireplace.
Cut the non firebricks from around the opening of the fireplace.
Cut off the non-firebricks that would end up inside the oven.
Install firebrick where non-firebrick was.
A few of my main concerns are:
1. Is the flue has internal dimensions of 7x7 inches. Is this going to be too big for the oven?
2. Where should the back/ceiling of the oven connect to the existing fireplace? – Should it attach right to the top of the existing fireplace, or should it attach to the wall, leaving more headroom. (Image 3)
Many thanks,
Michael
