Clay or cast from homebrew

Hi,
I have laid my base, perlite/cement under firebrick.i'm now ready to form the dome. I've always intended to do a cob oven from clay but I am slightly worried about longevity.
I'm considering casting a cement dome over a sand former instead, using a homebew mix. This would be cast as one piece. Is this a better alterniive to clay or will it just crack? If so is clay therefore better as it would be presumably easier to patch up clay?

Welcome Columbiers! There are quite a few threads in the Other Oven Types forum that should be of help answering your questions. I placed the link to one of the threads that will get you started. The homebrew mix has been used quite successfully for casting and definitely will be more durable than clay (IMHO ). David S is our resident expert on casting and has made many great suggestions and comments on cast ovens. Take some time to look through the Other Oven Types forum, lots of good examples and information for you.
