  • Bought a house with a wood oven that has never been used

I just purchased a house that has a beautiful wood burning oven. However, it looks like it has never been used! The oven was built with the house 5 years ago.
My question is about the curing process. Would I still follow the instructions for first time use? I’m in Thailand so there is definitely humidity issues but there should be no moisture remaining in the actual structure after all these years. I’ve searched this forum and the web and have found no answers. I’m very excited about this oven and I want to start off on the right foot. I welcome your advice and thank you.

I would certainly start low and slow. There is no good reason to go full on right away.
Enjoy your new oven, you're going to love it if you like to cook.

you have nothing to loose by going low and slow with a few fires to start. The moisture level in my oven after a wet season in N Qld still makes it starting a fire slow for the initial burn

Just start with a small fire, and a slightly bigger one the next time. What's the point in risking damaging it?
