  • Pennguard block.

Would Pennguard block make a good floor insulation instead of vermiculite?

I found a statement in a Pennguard Block installation that notes the material is good to only 200°C. I didn't find any compression data...you need to have at least 100 psi from my perspective readings. As Russell noted above, you need to get a more complete data sheet on the product before you proceed exchanging any money for it.

Thank you. The person who is selling them could give me no data..I will keep looking. I am hoping the start the foundation in the next couple of weeks. I was able to get all my cinder blocks for my raised garde bed and the oven from a guy in Morgan for .87 cents each.

I did do a google search, the data is out there, it appears to be similar to FoamGlas, which is a good "first" layer since FoamGlas will not absorb water. If this Pennguard is a good price it would be worth looking at. Here some data of K values of vcrete.

I intend to only use it as an insulation barrier between the fire bricks of the floor and the hearth. Fire bricks Will actually make the floor.
