Heating the floor

Best way to heat the floor. Spread the coals while they are red let them burn down a bit and then clean the floor, or push then to the side clean the floor and keep a larger fire stoked? Or some other way?

Might help to explain my oven is 35" internal diameter

I kind of like spreading the coals out and pulling a few across the opening to make a levee to raise the cool air draft up a bit off of the floor. Depending on what I am heating for, I sometimes place the insulated oven door partially closed for a few minutes. Of course, you can get the oven flloor to0 hot for pizza.
