Re: 10 random questions as I look through this site:

Please remember that this forum is much larger than when perhaps more "seasoned" contributers started. If you've been with the forum all along, you've seen every question asked a dozen times. If you are just starting, the immense amount of data can be difficult to sift through (there are over 33,000 posts!). The seach engine does not always lead you in the right direction. I often find it easier to use Google. FB is always the top entry in any WFO related questions.

I agree that we should read as much as we can before jumping into the project. I read throught the forum for 4 months before my first post! We should also continue to welcome new members, however, and not discourage the questions.

Great point Frances. After all, we do hang around here to help.. don't we?

There is such a thing as too much information. This forum is jam packed. I give the poster extra credit for adding the Rugby question.

I give Ken extra credit for "knowing" the answer.

And I remember asking lots of questions that had been posted and answered before.

i.e. "Is this perlcrete suppose to look like this, and will it ever get hard?"

There's a philosophy that says ask a number of people who the best dentist is in town to go to and if the same person keeps getting mentioned...that's a good one.

Enjoy the ride....none of us are getting out of here alive!

now with two posts we'll see if the questioner comes back!

                My bad,
Dave got it correct I guess. Perhaps a bad day. I felt bad this morning having posted it. I completely agree with dmun. There are no stupid questions. My response should have been to consult the plans, and left it at that.

On the other hand, 10 questions strongly suggests that little effort was put into any research. My appologies to the original member who posted the question. I think I'm going to go find Maver and Dusty. I'm working on my golf again (flog spelled backewards in my case!).

Thanks for the yuks Xjim, Dave and Frances. Thanks for the schooling Cjim and Dutch. Ciao a tutti! See you down the road.

If I may weigh in as a newbie...

This forum is a wealth of knowledge. But it is pretty daunting when one first comes across it: Lots and lots of info spread out over lots and lots of threads. But the overall site is nicely organized by topics and the search feature does work well. I especially have learned alot by reading threads where some brave soul has chronicled their build...that truly amazes me. To spend all that time building then taking the extra time to take pictures and write out everything!

But it takes alot of reading...and some things, like how long it takes the mortar to set, isn't something I'd seen anywhere; a great question. But the best thing this list of 10 questions illustrated to me is how great this forum is...you're willingness to help out a newbie...even going to extra lengths such as googling rugby info...

George, if it really bothers you...just delete the post.

....but you know we don't really care

...or I'd have a lot of posts to delete on big jugs, nice pairs and flowers, etc!

                          Gang,

I think we all have problems like this either with our WFO or at work where there is just "information overload" and you're not sure what "answer" is the best or most "recent".

I've read the plans so much that they are in the bathroom upstairs - I've never brought them outside while I work as I know the answers. My questions seem to focus on the "details" that aren't in the manual. I think the FB manual is GREAT - and I couldn't have done this without it - it's just that the FB manual can't contain every answer for every personal build.

My only suggestion (like the sticky's) would be to have a FAQ page -where we couldn't post "multiple" posts but to allow James or "admins" to post the "answers" to commonly asked questions - sorted by category like the picture page... Sometimes it's hard to find an answer it a string with 30 replies.

                          Just a suggestion.

                          Dick

I'm in no position to post an answer to questions 1 - 9, I'll leave that to the experts here, but I do think you keep Graham Henry until at least the end of England's tour this summer (NZ winter) after all, we need all the help we can get, especially following the injuries to Danny Cipriani (England's new Jonny Wilkinson) and to Dan Hipkiss & Paul Sackey!

Hopefully Graham Henry will be at his most un-inspiring best (is that fair?) and give us some small chance!

It never ceases to amaze me, that a country with the population equal to half that of London, always gives us such a severe mauling every time we step on to the rugby field with them. - At least we're doing OK against you on the cricket field at the moment and it's not anything like as bad as being beaten by the Aussies! (No offence ment to our Aussie cousins, but I'm sure they know what I mean with our sporting rivalry).

Not a yuk, George, surely! Maybe a very gentle prod, and you are right about the ten questions of course.

And as for bad days... you have every excuse. Staying home and looking after the kids is no picknick.

I think Dick's idea about the FAQ page, with no posts except James', is a good one. Everything from does this perlcrete ALWAYS look like this (I was glad I'd seen that one, because I thought it was weird too, and if I hadn't known, I'd have been sure I'd done it all wrong) to the great way CVdukes dreamed up to mix it up, to links to some threads with a lot of great information could be in there. I'd nominate Ken524's thread, Dmun's, Frances's, Les' and asudavew's, just to name a few, for the breadth of information you can find in them, from nonstandard materials to spreadsheets to "found materials" and alternate building styles. (there are lots of great builds and threads, these are some of the ones I found really helpful when I was starting.)
