Firebrick Colors

I am in the process of building my new oven, I dont like the yellow or red firebrick color for the inside of the oven, I can get black but its double the cost to purchase, question is if I get white or red or yellow, will it eventually turn black because of the soot?
or do I just spend the extra $400 and buy the black ones?

No. Once you light a fire inside the oven it will always go black, but once the tinside surface emperature reaches around 300C the soot burns away leaving the original colour of the bricks. It is quite helpful in assessing the oven temperature. If the bricks are black not only would it be difficult to use this visual temperature method, but the dark surface would make it harder to see what’s going on inside.
