  • Pouring the hearth

When you are pouring the two layers in the hearth, can they be poured several days apart or do they need to be done wet on wet??

    Thanks,

As the insulating concrete only has compressive strength, it doesn't matter when you apply it. Do it as your schedule permits.

      LOL

I poured separately. I was more concerned about shearing due to heat than anything else. It all worked out well as I had to do the vermicucrete in 2 pours.

Exactly as Dmun says. They can be separate pours. In addition, the insulated vermicrete layer does not have the same footprint as the structural slab (typically much smaller) , necessitating a certain amount of form work after the structural slab pour sets a bit, usually at least the next day.
