Insulation types

So I'm new to the wonderful world of wood burning pizza ovens, Ive read about ceramic blanket and vermiculite has anyone tried Rock Wool
Its a mineral wool insulation. It's what we use at work (I build powder coating ovens for a living). I don't know if it would work for this just
wondering if anyone had given it a shot.

Should work, CFB is rated higher, Mineral wool is a bit denser I think.

Did a quick search on this and found bulk "rockwool" for about $45 that is spun from molten rock and used in landscaping and for plantings. Is this the same stuff? Do you think I could use this alone or would I still need to fill the outer cladding with vermiculite as well?

Do a search in the forum for rockwool. It has been discussed a couple of times. In fact I used rockwool on my oven, although I don't think the landscaping stuff would work. You do need a product that can stand high temps on a regular basis.

here is the stuff I have at the plant we use it in powder coat oven applications
but we are usally dealing with oven temps in the 400 f range
and heater temps around 600f

The PDF says it's rated for temps up to 1000f, so you should be ok. I worry about it's rigidity for under oven use: it says it conforms to irregular surfaces.

use it and if you have room, use lot's of it!

I think for dome cladding it would work fine, under the hearth, how do you keep it from compressing?
