Chimney attachment Question

Hi All,

Just started gathering all the materials I require for my WFO build, and have been researching the endless information here (fantastic). However i'm still alittle unsure as to the best way to attach the 6" stainless pipe a friend has given me to the igloo style oven I intend to construct, any pictures/sujestion would be helpful thanks.

Most people use some kind of stainless transition piece to go from the vent to the chimney.

others have cast something in-situ, or cut and mortared bricks to suit...

Hi Mitchamus,

Thanks for the reply and the link,I guess i'll do something similar maybe some sorta frame to suit the stainless pipe or a plate, I'm using a round brick BBQ out the back of my house that we dont use anymore as my base for this WFO and have only laid the fire bricks for the floor atm, so still way off from having to know what to do.
My only concern was that I had intended to have this 6" stainless flue about 1.5 metres long and it just seemed like it would need to be fix'd to the arch way without putting alot of strain on the bricks.

I wouldn't worry about strain on the bricks,
once you're done building the archway, you'll be able to stand on it!

You don't really have to use a stainless chimney, a lot of people just build brick chimney's, but seeing as how you got it for free.. you may as well use it I spose!

I looked back into one of my books and found a notation by Russell Jeavons about how a good flue needs a smoke chamber with greater dimensions than the upper part where the pipe exhausts the smoke. His book "Your Brick Oven: Building it and baking in it" has a section on flues with a few sketches. He is from Willunga, South Australia so the book should be available to those of you that drink Fosters. I hope that helps.

Sounds like Budweiser in the US. They sell the heck out of it.....but to who? I have not known a Bud drinker for 20+ yrs.

your probably right Mitch just over thinking it, though I just have to have this free shinny piece of stainless as part of my oven .. maybe brick flue with a shorter length.

Good reference thanks Burntfingers, I will track down that book for sure, and as for the Fosters ..man it's been like 20+ years since I've had one of those I'm on a strict diet of red wine and whisky now.

Bud is good as a liquid fertilizer if you run out of manure tea for your garden. Maybe that is where it all goes? I drink homemade wine and ale mostly with my dinner.
If I can talk my wife into the flight this winter (here) I would love to go to Australia as a tourist. But not for the beer.
