I tired this yesterday for the first time - brilliant. You can set the fire up and just leave it for a good half hour or so before it needs any attention.

    Drogers,

I have started making all my fires this way -- in the fireplace and camping with the kids. The fire really does fall in and catch ever larger pieces of wood on the way down. Thumbs up on this one.

Does this seem to heat the oven quicker than what I would consider the bottom up version? The bottom up version being kindling on the bottom followed by progressively larger pieces.

my Dad always taught me to arrange the kindling so that plenty of kindling coals drop into the fire centre, rather than let them spread out(initially).....this goes one better......will try it myself - Thanks James

    Top Down Fire Video

    Hey all,

I tried the top-down fire method this weekend in my larger oven and it worked nicely, so today I shot a video of the top-down fire in my Primavera oven. This works so well -- thanks everyone who jumped in and recommended this. I really appreciate it.

I have a new theory on the videos that we are shooting. It's a new form of self-help. I am going to keep making video, and I'm going to learn a huge amount from everyone who has advice and will help me improve. It's an unusual way of using YouTube -- "help, what am I doing wrong" :-), but it might be effective.

You can find the video on FB.com and the YouTube version will be up shortly.

Thanks again -- oh, and I still need to try dryer lint.
