That is a might fine looking piece of work. I agree, it would look good with a pig roasting on a spit over the flames!

The first of the curing fires.

I envisage a spit being incorporated into this fireplace, a large spit that will hold a sheep or small pig.

Today I made a medieval Inn sign to hang over the medieval sized fire place.
I used my medieval plasma cutter, medieval MIG welder and medieval gas forge..

Just try an inconspicuous part first, I used the rotary headed lance as it has more cleaning power.

    All finished.
I gave the bricks a light acid wash and then hit them with the pressure washer, 150 years of grime gone and what a difference it makes, the bricks almost glow now.

Here are before and after shots of the cleaning, plus some general pics of the fireplace, oven and yard.

And to think it all started with just wanting a pizza.

What a glorious day, high teens and not a breath of wind, so some progress was made.

Tomorrow Ill take the chimney up further past the roof line as high as I can reach off the scaffolding.
I even tried the fireplace out with a few pieces of newspaper and it draws like a byooty.

Life got in the way today so I didnt do any work on the fireplace, but I saw that the wildlife was willing to give me a hand.....

Ive got a few more oddities built in too.
One is animal prints in the brick, the other is the imprint of a workers knitted jumper in the wet clay.
    Ill take some pics tomorrow.

I like it when someone takes a collectable piece of history and builds it into a new structure.
There wouldn't be too many people who even knew that bricks had ever been made with a diamond frog, let alone seen one.
Had a mate who built a new and conventional brick veneer house, but included the front door and frame from the old family home. Its a very small part of the whole house, but he chose the bricks with care and that little piece of history really makes the place special.

    But wait......
The brick with the diamond frog is one I found out in the bush, its one of Sydneys earliest bricks from about 1820/30.
