I envisage a spit being incorporated into this fireplace, a large spit that will hold a sheep or small pig.
    Great brick and metal work
You should build yourself a spit jack

I made a medieval fire poker and hook today, its screwed on with medieval philip head screws.
I will see if I can make some old looking nails to use instead of the screws.

I have to start a new job next week so play time is nearly over......

I would also like to tell you how nice I feel your fireplace turned out but... Disagree on the statement "It's to Cold of Pizza"

The Photos below show my oven in preparation for Pizza last night; air temp -5F (-15c) and the pizza turned out great. Still a little snow in the yard.

you could try with mobile wood fired pizza oven as these are available in different size and can be adjusted to the available space.

The snow has been bypassing us on almost every storm. We have about 1ft right now in the yard and 2-3 ft at the street curb.

                            Hi Al,

Taken an interest in outdoor fireplace after seeing yours and another post.

Did you end up installing a spit?

The construction of the oven, did you just use clay bricks or were some firebricks incorporated in the design?

How far do you find the heat radiates in front of the fireplace?

Would appreciate tips, and pitfalls to avoid.

                            Cheers

                              Hi Craig.
I used mainly wire cut bricks for the fire box, I did start out using fire bricks but only ended up doing two courses of them, the hobs are made with loose fire bricks but wire cuts would do just nicely too.

I never did the spit, Ive got the steel work built into the fire box but that is as far as it went.
I made a bbq plate out of stainless for the fireplace and we find ourselves using that with charcoal more than the gas bbq next to it......

If we are going to have ppl around I light the fire early, the radiant heat is just amazing, you cant get too close to the fire at all, its all under a clear roof so the heat stays trapped.....

We have one young couple who are regulars to a pizza night, Lucy sits mid way between the oven opening and the fireplace and just rotates around on a swivel chair, she glows red in the face but just refuses to move.....
