  • A Customised Indoor Fireplace / Masonry-Heater with a Built-in Oven

    Hello every one,

Hope you are all fine. I bought a new property that is underconstruction now and I designed a kitchen open to the living room that I would like to provide with a fireplace.

I do not want to sacrifce the precious heat and insulate the walls to the sake of unneeded decorations (of marble for instance). I would, however, want to make use of the big mass of the bricks to maintain heat for longer times.

The idea is simply to make the construction neat and clean, then to let it naked inside the living room. Yes, naked so that the beautiful layout of bricks adds a touch of authenticity and romance to the room. By doing this, I am a little bit hiring some of the properties of masonry heaters, which makes me satisfied in terms of not wasting the precious heat up the chimney only...

Moreover, coming from an oven construction background, I cannot resist the idea of having an oven on top of the fireplace as a tempting extra byproduct.

I came up with a sketch of the combo fireplace/oven with some probable modifications as work progresses... The build will start soon, with the help of a fireplace builder.

I will be documenting the progress with all possible details so that I can exchange ideas with you..

Why is this thus? What is the reason for this thusness?
    I forgot who said that.

ID:	468164Laying the base bricks, these are under the fire chamber. This allows the fire chamber to be raised about 30 cm for convenience as will be explained in the following post. image widget

This space under the hearth is convenient for the functionality of the fireolace, it has two fresh air circulation inlets, and a wood storage space in between.
