  • dusty's gittin' done!

    Hi all!
Miss you guys. Just a quick update to let you-all know that all is good and my project is almost done- I see light at the end of the tunnel!
This summer I set out to finish my outdoor kitchen. I made my counters from old pool table slates...they are black...so hot in the sun that you can't touch them. No good. I deceided to build a canopy over the entire project. Seemed like a good idea at the time but has turned into a HUGE endevor.
But I am finally done laying bricks and, thanks to my welding sons, I am reaching the end of the canopy project.
I will try not to be such a stanger.

I have taken some pictures of the giant metal superstructure but I can't seem to get the uploaded onto here. Sorry. I will try again soon.

More metal. 24 guage sheets. Painted white on both sides from the manufacturer. I will glue and screw them down as when they tried to weld one into place, it warped badly.

                Dusty,

That is an amazing set up! (where can I find some "Welding Sons"?) The canopy is going to be fantastic.

Good one Ken . Once you find them let us know, 'cos I'd like some, too.

At least you won't have any concerns with structural integrity!

Pretty handy eh? My middle son, Derek is a welding artist- I think that's what it is called. He builds sculptues of metal. My youngest, Kyle, learned to weld from him. Osmosis, I think.

Derek did some, but Kyle did most.

I have almost finished installing the roof. It goes much faster that I thought. I will certainly finish tomorrow.
I will try to take some pics. Maybe some of some sculpures too.

                          Careful!
Like I said, that canopy has turned into a MAJOR project. This outdoor kitchen is taking way too long. I started 8/16/07, and have been working on it very steady since then.
                          My enthusiasm is waning.

A welding artist... that is so cool! Yes, please do post some pics of his sculptures!

My most limiting factor for making mosaic sculptures is being able to produce a stable rebar structure to support the cement base. I'm very jelous, too

Dusty, welcome back - that's one heck of an entrance, with that canopy structure! The Welding Sons did a great job and I'd love to see some sculpture pics too.
