Great idea - one could possibly take the lazy route and forget the mounting bracket and simply stand in a convenient loaction (where it won't get knocked over)...

      I hear ya!

Already saving wine bottles for more torches along the path.

Was worried a bit about distance from torch to columns but 5.5 inches seems to be pretty good. Had a prevailing wind towards one of the torches and monitored it for a few hours - column never got hot. the torch blew out a 2 or 3 times. Still - I don't run them unattended.

hmm heard about some red bottles at a wine store in Atlanta. May need to run down there this weekend!

Re: Wine Bottle Tiki Torches for my Kitchen

I just had to make one of these lights, but found getting the parts in Australia hard, maybe because we are metric. What I've come up with is a cheaper alternative but it seems to work pretty well.
The wicks I got from Bunnings and the copper reducer (!5x20mm), 15mm pipe, end cap,and 20mm pipe from plumbing supplies. The 20mm pipe was a whisker too big so I made some cuts in it and squeezed the diameter down a little. The two angle brackets are sufficient to hold a 375ml bottle and the bottle is held in position by a saddle fixed with bolts and wing nuts.

If anyone else does this, post some pics. I'd like to see what it looks like with different bottles too. I found a few websites that sell empty bottles so if you really want the blue ones they're easy to find.

My wife will be so happy if I tell her that maybe I can SELL some of my old bottles (living around here we end up with a lot of emptys)! Going to go stock up now!

They do look cool and now I plan on adding a couple of built in holders to the oven I am planning.

            Eric.
            Thanks, Eric

Don't put them too close to the oven. Some of my guests thought they were for home defence. Probably would work too.

Might come in handy if you lived in Bangkok.

I've made a stake type version for in the garden, too. As soon as I find the memory card for my camera I'll take a few pics!!!
