    I ran across a reference to a top down fire in Audubon's Journal ''Journey up the Misssippi'' where he talks about one night the Indian guides felling three 60ft ash trees , piling them up and starting a fire on the top . The party then settled down around the fire under the pall of smoke, keeping warm and bug free all night.
    Now that's a fire!!

    As a foot note : It has been discovered that Mr. Audubon '' spiced'' up his acccounts ,sometimes presenting facts as fiction and fiction as fact . All in the telling of a ''good'' story. maybe the ash trees were only 50ft tall...
