So after almost a year without being used, my oven got uncovered today.
Spent a few hours adding a few layers of to the outer render before running out of bricks.
I then stuck my hand in the oven, and realized that the fire bricks are quite damp. The ceramic blanket is dry to the touch, but the vermiculite is damp.
So overall - there's A LOT of water in and around the oven. The roof isn't on yet (it's spent the winter under a tarp).
My first thought was, small fires for a week or two... so I grabbed some dry bush cuttings and lit a small fire. While it smelled great (lavender cuttings ) it smoked quite badly.
I realize that the standard method is to light small fires over the course of a few days, but with all that damn, getting a small, clean burning fire won't happen.
Any ideas as to a smoke-free way to dry the oven?
