  • Curing oven over several weekends

    Hello,

I don't have 6 straight days to stare at a fire. Is it OK to cure the oven over the course of 3 weekends? 1 burn each weekend day, increasing in temperature until the 3rd weekend?

    Thanks.

Yes, of course. In fact it may be better because it gives the moisture left in the bottom of the dome and under the floor a chance to migrate back to the higher and drier parts of the oven.

That's good news. I'm hoping to do it over two 3-day weekends (plus maybe a few small fires in the evenings between those weekends). Temperature estimation is going to be a problem. Maybe we need a scale of some sort:

Day 1: feels quite warm if you put your hand inside the oven.
Day 2: takes the hairs of your arm if you poke it into the oven.
Day 3: takes the skin off your arm if youre stupid enough to get it inside the oven.
Day 4: I'm not putting my arm in there!
Day 5: small children spontaneously combust walking past oven entrance
      Day 6: Pizzas!
