I would advocate a chainsaw and a rural road with some dead, dry timber, a trailer to bring it home and happy days!

              Works for me.
              Cheers ......... Steve

                Re: Wood in SA Australia

There is plenty of partially burt hardwood on the sides of the roads within the bushfire area. Just joking but there are numerous wood merchants around that will gladly supply you, even some sand and metal merchants carry split red gum mainly in the cooler months. Railways down at Reynella still have a good supply as was seen only a couple of days ago.

                  G'day
Sorry , the question on my mind is why someone in New South Wales is asking for wood supplies in South Australia.
That's a long way to haul a trailer of wood?
                  Regards dave

Don't need a chainsaw - all the other collectors take the big stuff, and you can generally fill the boot with the stuff that is 1 or 2 inches in diameter, which is the best stuff for a fast fire in an oven in my opinion.

I take the lot. The small stuff is, like you say, best for a fast fire but the old heart wood makes the long lasting coals.
