Les, I have a guy from Grass Valley with chuncks of Black Oak He will sell split pieces per cord to me for 150 each, wow! I am buying 2 cords, and will pick them up a week from Saturday. If you like the price of this AWESOME deal, let me know asap. He has to split the logs up and needs the time. This will not be a yearly shot. I figure you should get a cord too. Let me know.

Definitely! How much for un-split, I have a splitter. We need to figure out the logistics, can you pull a trailer with your SUV?

I have bought $350+ delivered, cured oak (it's almost too nice to just burn), and $125 wet pine. I'm not happy with either of them.

Where's the happy median?

Les, I am sure un split would be great! I was going to rent a u-haul. Let me call him and ask the price of unsplit. If that is the case, what about this Saturday? Do you want 1 or 2 cords? Glad you found another source. Remeber - Let the buyer beware! Make sure you're getting what you pay for. Remember, if the price seems too good to be true, (you're probably getting.... Uuuhh, you know). Cutting and selling firewood is not a high paying job, and many merchants will tell you what you want to hear, and give you something else altogether. Have a look at some Black Oak, or any oak locally before you go pick it up. If each piece seams pretty heavy, you can bet its not well seasoned. That's OK if the price is good. You just can't use it for a least a year. You'll still need to make provisions, say half a chord, for the immediate future.

If you know a woodworker, they often have a moisture meter somewhere in their shop that measures the moisture content of the wood. Perhpas you can borrow it for the day. I think 18 percent is a good number - others, please correct me if I'm wrong.

George, it is likely not seasoned because they have to be split. The price is too good to pass up. Les and I are getting 2 cords each, and Telehort is looking at 1/2 cord.

I had a free cord of Ash from a tree trimmer set aside for me. I threw that to Dusty. He is picking it up today. These opportunities are great.

I'm picking up some wood now that was recently cut down, plan on setting it aside for a year to season. Is it best to split it now or can I be lazy and split it when I'm using it? Much smaller projects that way.

Sorry, mate, split it now. It will season much better and much faster in split form; also burns better in the end.

It's $200 for the whole mountain and $50 a truckload. Big chunks, just cut and not split. A live oak fell down.
