  • Firewood species for burning

    Hi,

Looking to buy some firewood in Oz.

A trailer load of mixed gum is plentiful and reasonably affordable. Qld Ironbark seems to be the hottest burning, but pure ironbark is also the most expensive.

Should I fork out for the good stuff, or can I just use more wood if I want to get it hotter?

    Cheers,

I use more junky wood (ie pine and other soft woods) during the initial start up and heating of the oven, then I move to better hardwoods as the oven begins to heat saturates and as I start cooking, throwing smaller hardwood on the coals to keep the oven hot.
