Has someone tried to precast the arch rather than building it from bricks? I'd include a step for the door to sit against.
Since the inside of the arch is exposed to heat but the arch is also an area where heat could easily escape, I am thinking about mixing vermiculite with refractory mortar. Will that work?
I may still include one layer of bricks as final touch up at the arch front.
