Steel sheet for oven floor.

Hi all .....thanks for letting me in. I havevsome firebrick but have read that you can use steel on the floor of the oven. I have some steel plate over an inch thick which will cover most of the base. Can inuse this bedded onto vermiculite ? Any advice greatful
