    Re: Pizza stone cleaning......

I have never washed my pizza stones. I just replace them when they shatter from getting to hot. But I have solved that problem now as my oven should be useable by next weekend

The best thing I've found for cleaning them are the 4" stainless steel putty knife. You should never need to wash them, other then with a damp wash rag. Never directly in to water.

Nothing like a bit of pyrolytic cleaning. Works a treat. I wouldn't have any chemical stuff around anything porous that I was cooking with.

That black that builds up on the stone provides a great deal of non stick properties.

When you use it put it in the oven, preheat oven to 500 and then back off to your cooking temp. Then put in your pizza. I do not think there are any bugs that will survive 500F for any length of time.

I would never wash it. Just wipe it with a clean dry cloth.

Give it a good rinse and let it dry slowly.
