Re: ANZAC Day
No, actually these wars were not fought so much against countries or thier peoples as much as against facism and political ideologies that were being forced on others....
scottz... appreciate your reminder to raise a glass to those who sacrificed thier lives giving us the Freedom that we enjoy today.
"Freedom is not free, ask anyone who has had to fight for it."

Re: ANZAC Day
brickie in oz
With a comment like that, it commands a recipe!!!!
I always look for something to do and cook in the cooling oven and a 'good' anzac biscuit is ideal.
My sister made some good anzacs a few weeks ago and then repeated the recipe with a little more butter which ended up more like brandy snaps.
Cheers.

Re: ANZAC Day
When the Anzac biscuit first came up, I googled it and discovered that it was full of the hated dried grated coconut. Otherwise it seemed like a pretty standard oatmeal cookie.
Your enclosed recipe looks much better. The despised coconut is missing. It uses much more oatmeal than flour (most recipes are 1 to 1). I'm going to give these a try.
For those like myself that are "golden syrup" deprived, it's suggested that honey is a good substitute.

Re: ANZAC Day
Here's the metric amounts for the anzac biscuit recipe:
180g rolled oats
60g sugar
94g flour
22g golden syrup
5g bicarb of soda
14g boiling water
125 grams butter (given) (114g=1 stick)
These were assembled using various web calculators. Will test soon.

Re: ANZAC Day
David,
theses are staple biscuits down here and very popular. Although you Americans have different tastes to us Aussies (like Vegemite) you just might enjoy them.
To put a batch in the cooling oven just might develop into a tradition!
Cheers
