  • Where to get a Ceramic Blanket from in Qld?

    Hi there

I'm looking for advice on where to get a ceramic blanket from in the Brisbane area? Any advice on sources and costs is appreciated.

I hear I need around 50 square foot of blanket about 3 inches thick for an average wood-fired oven. sound right?

    Thanks!
    Dan

      new to the forum..
Got my slab down and laying blocks this weekend. (stay away RAIN,damn you)
I have tracked down fireclay and vermiculite for my dome.....
      BUT
Does anybody know if you can use Ceiling insulation instead of the ceramic blanket..
OR should I just use the ceramic..
I helped my mate do his and he used 2 rolls and it seemed expensive..I have left over R3.5 insulation so I was going to use that....
ANY advice would be great...it is my last sticking point...I think I know the answer.

Batts will compress badly. A roll of ceramic fibre should only be $75'ish + freight.
What area are you in? We can supply in Melbourne area.

You wont regret getting the blanket, the few extra bucks will be paid back time and time again in saved wood and extended heat retention times.

                Why?

50mm of blanket is worth 200mm of vermiculite.

Sorry should have explained better, was going to put 3 layers but decided to just go the two. I didn't want to put so much vermiculite so did 2. Oven is awesome just finishing off the tiling and painting. Had it up to over 600 and 8 hours of cooking felt nothing with the 2 blanket layers and vermiculite and render so was enough. Might as well spend the money on finishing everything.

Gus5jp, How much do you want for your blanket? I'm in Cairns so I need to consider freight too. Is it a full roll?

                      Hello ,

I live in Adelaide and was wondering where the best place to buy ceramic insulation was here? I have looked around and it a bit expensive.
Is it cheaper over the internet?

CWG Insulation were able to provide all requirements and we're good to deal with

                          Hi Dan,
I am building a 42 inch wfo at school. Just about to purchase some ceramic blanket. It comes in 1 inch thick rolls. Is 50 square ft enough for 2 layers over the dome? My oven at home is fully enclosed and I filled the cavity between the dome and the outside brick with vermiculite. It works a treat, but for the school project I'm using the ceramic blanket then the vermicrete. I have the downloaded plans but any tips would be appreciated. I'll post some pics soon.
                          Regards from Tassie
