  • What wood is this?

I've been lucky enough to get myself a trailer load of wood which I'm told is Yellow Box.
Now I've done a google search and I have come up 2 different pics both saying they are yellow box

Mine looks like the first pic.

This is what I got, the wood is wet so that might make it a little harder to identify.

    is it Yellow Box ????

Hi Doug, So it's a box of some sort.

These are just the branches I left the stumps behind as they would be a pain to cut. The trunk is about 18in wide and were cut in 12-18" lengths but I passed on it.

I'll cut and stack it all within the next week or two.

I love this site, thanks Doug.

Anyway that wood is very green and will take 12 to 18 months minimum to dry.
Nah I'll save my back and let someone else have the trunks.

Yeah I figured it'll be 18-24 mths of drying but that's ok I have hardwood fence posts which I got from the inlaws which would give me at least 15 fires. I also have gum of some sort which has been drying for 10mths that's another 5-10 fires so I should be right for wood until this stuff dries.

This is a sample of very dry Yellow Box. It burns very hot and I use it to warm the oven up quickly and for flame to cook the top of the pizza.

That isn't yellow box - some other variety of gum.

The thicker the trunks, the denser the timber. If you can cut it into short, say6" lengths, it is way easier to split.Try to feed your oven with nothing thicker than your wrist.I just bought a chainsaw. It is a cheapie and when I unpacked it, fuelled it up, could not make it start. Retuned it and shall wait. Oh well.

That wood will be fine to use - I grab stuff like that off verges whenever I find it. Here in Perth I can start using green wood in about 3-5 weeks if the weather is warm - provided I split it first.

good advise, it'll also help dry out quicker.
Was your Chainsaw a cheapie made in China off ebay?
I got myself a second hand electric chainsaw for $40 from ebay but need to get the blade sharpened before I can use it.

Truth is I'm a tight ass so $40 was all I wanted to spend as I wasn't sure if it'll be used much.
                              I'll regret it I'm sure.
