Same, I cant stress enough how you should cover up and protect yourself.
Even after using disposable overalls go shake your self in the sunlight, the fibres that come off you will make you think twice.

Stevo. I used 1 box of 128/25 on my 36" and it did 2 layers. I topped this with vermicrete to take the whole insulation layer (CF and vermicrete) out to 100mm. The oven holds the heat very well and still retains useful heat 48 hours after the door goes on.

The additional vermiculite is not such a hassle once you get the hang of it. I found that applying it in tennis ball size lots with the ball of the hand worked for me. Trick is to apply it in one motion and then leave it alone, it will stay there then but did not tolerate messing about with it. Imperfections can be sorted out with the render coat.

Thanks Russell. Just thinking ahead again, I bought a 7metre roll of ceramic fibre blanket for insulation. It's 25mm thick so I will need to cover the thing 3 times to achieve the required 75mm. I'm doubting 7 metres is going to be enough. Anybody else covered a 36" oven with this and how much did you need? Thinking I'm going to be buying a second box. Could do a layer of vermiculite as I have seen others do but it looks difficult and messy to me?

Nobody but you will ever know you had to grind. It really looks good to me. The class of 2013 are really making some great builds.

Checked out Mr Chipsters door and its pretty much exactly the same. It could well be the one I got the idea from, cant remember where I saw it. Cleared the dome, only just. If you zoom in on the photo, you will see I had to grind out the corner a fraction so as not to see it from the outside. I could have come in another inch or so with this arch style. (Vertical sides). I think if I used a complete rounded arch, my placement of the inner arch would have been perfect as I would not have had the sharp corners up high. Has worked anyhow. Completed the outer arch with glazed house bricks today. Looks good. Will post some pics soon.

Nice work, you cleared the dome very well. Door looks like something Mr. Chipster did.

Have now done the course of bricks that contact the top of the inner arch. I put a small chamfer on the inner edge of the arch bricks and cut the dome bricks to suit. Angles were difficult so I moulded a brick out of fire clay and cut it up until it was a good fit, then transferred that shape to the brick and cut it. Lot of mucking around but no wasted bricks...

Now that's an oven with a view! Don't shade the glare with cupped hands and press them to the glass.

I set thin wire ties into the inner dome refractory as I build. That way there is no need for any drilling into bricks.

That looks great! though I think your door would benefit with another lid on the inside to help keep the heat in.Great idea Im gunna have do the same.

Spent a day making a door. Copied from this site of course... Found a glass lid from an old saucepan, fixed it in place with high heat silicone. Stainless steel inside and alloy outside, just because that's what I had lying around. Used a pair of trailer spring U bolts and cut them in half to fit into the wooden handles and they pass through the door to keep it all together with about 30mm of insulation brick in the centre. As for the wooden handles, If my wife is looking for her rolling pin, I have no idea where it might be... Pinched the temp gauge from my gas BBQ because now I have this oven, there wont be any roasting happening in the bbq for a while. All up it cost me nothing as I had all these materials lying around so pretty happy with how it turned out. Might cost me to replace the rolling pin, probably going to need one of those soon.

Hey Russell that looks so neat haven't seen that photo before. Appears to be no bulging. How did you achieve that. No Chicken wire used?

Thanks Russell, That's what I will do then. That's a beautiful looking oven you have by the way. I'd be really pleased if mine turns out half as nice as that.
