  • Baking Classes at Bourke Street bakery.

    Hi all,

I've never been a good baker in my oven, so bought a bread maker, its ok but am really looking forward to my pizza oven and the bread I can bake within it.

has anybody tried Bourke Street bakery bread. its the best I have ever eaten. If you havnt tried it get down to your local store it is amazing, the bread from the shop in marrickville is the best ever.

They offer bread making classes, has anyone tried this class in sydney?

    G'day
I followed the link I'd recon I'd try one of those classes for sure. I will have to check out them in brisbane.
I'd only have admiration for those that bake bread in a serious way.
Me, I have a bread baker too, and it produces a batch of dough on the dough setting in the roughly 2 hours it takes to flash the oven to pizza temps! Call me lazy, but it works out.
Have the luxury of prep planning and store the dough in the beer fridge better still.
Same dough put in the fridge for next day, will make a couple of loaves of bread in the morning. Nothing fancy, but square loafs in tins, just the same way I've helped the cooks make at sea when I was younger. It might not be perfect, but fresh warm bread doesn't have to be perfect to be good.
Bread rolls are easier to get right and are always easy to produce along with a roast as it's not as critical to get the temp perfect as it is with a larger loaf.

That sounds like a good idea. I love these hands-on type cooking sessions. Me and the lad did a butchery session in Alexandria in Sydney last year. Start with a whole pig and quite a few beers later and it was sausages, chops, mince, you name it.

      Loved. It.

        Hey Wozza,

What was the name of the butchery you did the class in, really interested in that style of class as well.

I will do the Bourke St Bakery class when the oven is finished, bread is a major reason for building the oven. Cant wait!

Place called Salt Meat and Cheese in Bourke Street Alexandria. If you go, make sure someone else is driving. They're very generous with the beers.
