  • D105 build Blue Mountains.

Hi all. I having been thinking about building a WFO for years but put it in the too hard basket. After finding this pre cut build kit I have got the building bug. I had to cut in the rock in the back yard to build the base.

Will load some pics after I work out how to do it.

This is the starting point before any work. Its close to the back deck near the house but on a sloping part of the garden.

Chipped back into the rock by hand/airtool to create an area where I could lay some besser block. Put a few concrete footings at the base then built the besser block C'shaped structure. The besser blocks are not mortared together, but filled with concrete and reo bar.
The last pic shows some of the form work for the suspended slab poured on top.

Formwork for the slab was made of formply supported by pine nailed to the lesser blocks. The sides of the slab were made from more formply and pine to stop the ply bowing. 16mm reo bar in both directions to support the 120mm thick slab. Final pic show the poured slab.

I'm glad you decided to start a thread Drac, I'm looking forward to seeing how your kit goes together.

The Kit arrives. Had to hire a heavy duty trailer as its weighed so much. All the essentials included - pre cut bricks, refractory mortar, refractory castable, flue, door, insulation, render etc.... Only really had to purchase sand, lime, cement, and tools to construct with.

                      Hey Drac

The oven looks great. I heard you were going to build one and I was going to offer to help if you needed it. Looks like you have everything under control.

We should catch up for Pizza though, either at your place or mine.

Drac, looking at your build pictures has been making me wish I was able to spend more time on mine. How is/did your curing go?

Build is going well. Just finished the last layer of render. Trued to get it smooth but still a bit rough. Hope you get some time to build. Started some small fires in mine over the week and looking promising so far.

Its all cured now after a week of small fires. Have cooked 30+ pizzas, a roast and some steaks so far. Performs really well. Just looking at tidying up the outside now.
