Looks great, you will see inverted "v"s the higher you go unless you bevel the sides, again you only need to bevel near the front and not along the entire side, make mortar you friend. You are after tight inner mortar joints. As you stagger the bond going up do your best work on the back half of the dome and make corrections on the front half where they will not be seen once the dome is complete.

Thanks, I'm going to rig up a jig for my saw to make the bevel. Like you post #62 and Chip did.

Spent the day working a brick jig to do compound bevel/angle cuts. I think this is a spin of one I saw somewhere on this site but going from memory. I am putting on some urethane on the wood so it has some water proofing and won't swell. I will see how well this works, the proof is in the pudding. The jig is make from junk I cabbaged from aroung the house. The jig is fasten to the HF saw through the 1" holes in the sliding tray with dry wall expanding wing bolts. Used a SS steel piano hinge to make the tilting table and for now just placing wedges between the two wood pieces for bevel angles. Going to try tomorrow.

This is looking great mate. I like the mortar mix idea. Any feedback on how it will go. Sure looks and sounds the goods at a fraction of the price for high temp mortar.
