  • Where to buy materials in Adelaide

    Hi South Australians,

Starting a new build and finding it hard to locate certain materials via the internet e.g. calsil board and thermal blanket. Looks like there is lots of stuff in Sydney and Melbourne but I'd rather not pay freight if I can help it. Any ideas on up-to-date suppliers around Adelaide?

    Cheers

    For bricks and fireclay:

    Ordinary clay:
    http://www.bennettsmagillpottery.com.au

    Ceramic blanket:
    https://www.industrialgaskets.com.au

Maybe try Adelaide Furnace - far too old fashioned to have a website

Anyone know if the crushed clay at Bennets is fireclay or crushed dried clay?

Any powdered clay will suffice, but avoid Bentonite as the extremely smal particles lead to excessive shrinkage. I find the cheapest source is Bricklayers Clay which you can obtain from a trade concrete products supplier.

FYI Traditional Brick Ovens in Norwood (same location as Wholly Belly pizza) has a lot of material for sale. Most of it's not on display, but the website lists it:

I ended up getting my blanket from them.

Insulating board I got from Promat in Mile End: https://www.promat-hpi.com/en/produc...-1000-products.
          Good stuff but expensive.
