  • TIPS FOR Base

    Hey gang,

So we’ve strayed building a oven without a tonne of research and need a tip at this point. As bottom of base of steel frame we put a form ply sheet - attached a silica sheet to this. Above this plan to put 1.5” of refractory mortar, then fire bricks...

will our ply sheet be safe under that? Any tips to make sure it is? A layer of fire cement / perlite first maybe?

ply is already in so need to work with what we got!

    Cheers,

Timber ply will not like weather, moisture or heat, all of which will apply for an outdoor oven. If it were mine I’d be pulling it out and replacing it with thick cement sheeting (say 12 mm) provided the steel supports under it are no more than 150 mm centres.
